Cyber Safety Corner
The internet is a wonderful place to learn, create and connect, but it must be used wisely. Follow these simple tips to stay safe online, and always remember: if something online makes you uncomfortable, tell a trusted adult immediately.
Strong Passwords
- Use at least 8–12 characters with a mix of letters, numbers and symbols.
- Never use your name, birth date or phone number as a password.
- Use a different password for every account.
- Never share your password with anyone, even close friends. Only your parents or guardians may know it.
- Log out of shared or school computers after use.
Protect Your Personal Information
- Do not share your full name, home address, phone number, school name or daily routine with strangers online.
- Never share OTPs, bank or card details of your family with anybody.
- Think before you post: anything shared online can stay there forever.
- Keep your social media profiles private.
Beware of Strangers Online
- Do not accept friend requests or chat with people you do not know in real life.
- Not everyone online is who they say they are.
- Never agree to meet an online friend alone. Always inform your parents.
- Do not send photos or videos of yourself to anyone you do not know.
Cyber Bullying
- Be kind online. Do not send hurtful messages, mean comments or embarrassing photos about anyone.
- If someone bullies you, do not reply. Save screenshots as proof, block the person and tell a parent or teacher.
- You are never at fault for being bullied.
Phishing, Scams & Fake News
- Do not click on unknown links, lottery or prize messages, or free-gift offers.
- Check the website address (look for https and the correct spelling) before entering any information.
- Verify news from trusted sources before forwarding it.
- Download apps only from the official Play Store or App Store.
Safe Online Classes & Gaming
- Join online classes only through links shared by your teachers. Do not share meeting links or IDs.
- Do not chat privately with unknown players in online games and never share personal details there.
- Never make in-app purchases without a parent's permission.
- Take regular breaks. Limit your screen time and balance it with sports and hobbies.
Device Safety
- Keep your device locked with a PIN or password and update software regularly.
- Install an antivirus and avoid connecting to free public Wi-Fi for important work.
- Do not open email attachments from unknown senders.
- Cover or switch off your webcam when not in use.
Respect Copyright & Digital Footprint
- Do not copy-paste content, images or music without permission; give credit to the source.
- Your online activity creates a digital footprint that colleges and employers may see in future.
- Think twice before you post, comment or share.
